What leads me to believe this is 1) you've tested multiple sticks of RAM and the issue still occurs, 2) you believe it's happening after transport so things could be shaking loose temporarily, 3) the genius bar couldn't find an issue when running tests meaning maybe when they were testing it the weary solder points just happened to have settled and were making sufficient contact at the time. What you're describing to me sounds a lot like a possible solder point issue between the RAM slots and the logic board itself, unfortunately. The problem is that most people assume that only the actual RAM itself can trigger the beeps when in fact there's a chance that it could be the RAM slots causing the issue.
When it's 4GB or 6GB, it works fine, although a bit slow since I installed El Capitan, which is why I'm upgrading the memory.3 beeps upon startup definitely signals a RAM issue. This machine supposed to be upgradable to 8GB. Any 6GB combination, regardless of which RAM uses which slot, also works fine. I have already tried almost all different combinations between these 6 RAMs (2 old 2GB, and 4 new 4GB). They are 204-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM 1600 (PC3L 12800) RAMs, which seems to be the correct kind. I have already tried 2 different sets of 4GB RAMs, one couple was second hand, the other pair brand new Crucial.
because when I try one of the new (4GB) RAMs with one of the old (2GB) RAMs, it works fine. I am pretty sure this is not about RAMs not being inserted properly, or dusty slots etc. The Macbook I have is a mid-2009 and has OSX El Capitan. I saw other people had the similar issue, however mine seems to be a bit different.
I am trying to upgrade my Macbook Pro memory from 4GB to 8GB, however when I start the laptop it beeps 3 times, without loading the OS, and just keeps doing that.
